Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), the senior Republican member of the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, will be among 12 occupational safety experts speaking May 12 at a UCLA Extension conference on “OSHA Safety and Liability Issues in Industry.”

Among the other speakers are James Lapping of the AFL-CIO, Charles Culver of OSHA, Associate Justice Stanley Harwood of the New York State Supreme Court and acting Inspector Gen. Raymond Maria of the U.S. department of Labor.

Congress is currently considering several bills that would amend and strengthen the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Act in such areas as construction hazards, criminal sanctions and higher penalties.
