GOP Support: Former First Lady Betty Ford joined several other Republicans recently in Washington, D.C., to announce the creation of Pro-Choice America, a group that will support GOP candidates who oppose President George Bush’s anti-abortion stance. The committee spokesperson said the group’s only purpose was to support “pro-choice Republicans who face anti-choice opponents.”

Trump Label: Ivana Trump, whose estranged husband, Donald, said he paid her $1 a year and all the dresses she wanted for running New York’s Plaza Hotel, plans to launch her own collections of ready-to-wear clothing and accessories in 1992, Women’s Wear Daily reported. Trump said she was negotiating with “a major licensing company,” which she wouldn’t name, according to the newspaper.

Mayor’s Move: At the National Black Mayors Conference in New Orleans last week, Washington Mayor Marion Barry walked in during a speech by Jesse Jackson, who said: “Come on up here, Mr. Mayor.” Barry approached the dais and the crowd stood and applauded. Then Jackson returned to excoriating President Bush’s war on drugs as a colossal failure. Barry, arrested in January on drug charges, did not speak.

Wait Training: Florence Griffith Joyner, the heroine of the 1988 Olympics, is expecting her first child in November, her business agent said Thursday. “She was delighted to hear the news,” Gordon Baskin said in New York. Griffith Joyner won three gold medals and a silver medal in track events at the Seoul Games. Her husband is Al Joyner, the 1984 Olympic gold medalist in the triple jump.
