It is natural for us to condemn the use of force by the Soviet Union in slowing Lithuanian moves toward independence, but I hope we don’t go too far in that direction. People in glass houses, and all that.

How far back are we to go, anyway, in our search for justice? Do we reissue maps from before World War I, or World War II? Didn’t our Presidents (Woodrow) Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt have something to do with erasing old national boundaries? How about returning our state of Georgia to an independent Cherokee nation? Or, hey, how about Canaan for the Canaanites?

Too late. In all the world no one lives but in his conquered predecessor’s house.
