From Times Staff and Wire Reports

John List may have been under emotional stress, but he was legally sane when he killed his wife, mother and three children in November, 1971, a psychiatrist testified in Elizabeth, N. J. Dr. Steven Simring, a psychiatrist at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey who testified as a rebuttal witness for the prosecution, was the final witness in seven days of testimony. Defense attorney Elijah Miller Jr. has admitted that List, 64, committed the killings, but has argued List is not responsible because of mental illness brought on by a religious obsession. Lawyers are to give their final arguments today.
