Long Beach : University Picks Dean of Behavioral Sciences

Cal State Long Beach has named a new dean of its School of Social and Behavioral Sciences after a 12-month nationwide search that drew 50 applicants. She is Dorothy Abrahamse, a 22-year employee of the university who formerly chaired its history department.

Among the goals articulated by Abrahamse, who had served as the school’s interim dean since last summer, are development of the existing multicultural program curriculum and the degree program for international studies. One of the largest of the university’s nine academic schools, the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences includes, among other things, the departments of anthropology, economics, geography, history, liberal arts, political science, psychology, social work and women’s studies.

Abrahamse replaces Chae-Jin Lee, who left last summer after three years at the university to accept an administrative position at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont.
