Mexican heartthrob and 1985 Grammy winner Luis Miguel, fully recovered from the flu that recently hospitalized him at Cedars-Sinai, embarks on his first U.S. concert tour April 20 at the Sports Arena. A party celebrating his 20th birthday is planned for the day before at a local club, with fan club members invited to attend the bash.

Direct from a three-month Mexican tour, Spain’s Raphael will also be visiting our town close to his 44th birthday on May 5. He will be in concert at Anaheim Celebrity Theatre on April 22 and Universal’s Amphitheatre on April 28. With more than 350 gold and platinum records to his credit, this year marks Raphael’s 30th anniversary in show biz, with a 1990 calendar of 300-plus performances worldwide.

Paul Rodriguez’s recent CBS series “Grand Slam” was dropped after only a few episodes, but he is now busy on a new project. Univision has launched its first late-night talk program, “El Show de Paul Rodriguez.” The Los Angeles comedian hosts the live tapings (seen Fridays 10-11 p.m. on Channel 34), which offer comedy, talk and music and features both English- and Spanish-speaking talent.

Nestle’s asked its marketing experts to find the nation’s most trusted Latino spokesperson. And the winner was . . . Vikki Carr. As a result, the popular songstress will soon be pitching her first set of broadcast ads for the Nestle’s line of Kern’s Nectars.

Valerie Harper’s new CBS series, “City,” also features Liz Torres, who was honored at the White House by then-President Jimmy Carter during America’s first “National Hispanic Week.” The Puerto Rican actress has been a regular on such TV hits as “All in the Family” and “Phyllis,” as well as having appeared in several Broadway shows.

Miss Universe 1987 Cecilia Bolocco and TV host Michael Young were wed last month in the bride’s hometown of Santiago, Chile.

Jimmy Smits of “L.A. Law” plays a Cuban political prisoner in the romantic drama “Fires Within,” a motion picture penned by Cuban-born, Miami-raised Cynthia Cidre. It is scheduled to be released at the end of this year.
