Bob Hope’s Philanthropy

We at Eisenhower Medical Center would like to counter the environmentalists who claim that Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hope are not concerned about their fellow man. Eisenhower Medical Center has been the beneficiary of their goodwill and their generosity for many, many years. Bob and Dolores Hope donated 80 acres of land in the late 1960s to build Eisenhower Memorial Hospital. It was Mrs. Hope’s vision that started this institution and she has worked for over 25 years to make it a reality. Mrs. Hope has been chairman of our board of trustees for a number of years. She was one of the founders of the volunteer trustees of not-for-profit hospitals, and she and Bob donated funds and helped to recruit funds for the building of our outpatient care center.

Bob Hope has performed numerous benefits for Eisenhower that have raised millions of dollars. The couple has also established the Bob and Dolores Hope Chair in Medical Education here.

Eisenhower Medical Center has been the major beneficiary of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Golf Tournament, which has taken much time and financial involvement from the Hopes. The Bob Hope Classic has also provided millions of dollars to other charities in the Coachella Valley. A list of the Hopes’ contributions to mankind are many and could go on for pages. We are all aware of Bob Hope’s USO tours and of the concerts that he has given to benefit other charities. We feel that it is very sad that people do not recognize the tremendous number of charitable contributions, both personal and financial, they have made over the years. The Hopes have certainly done their part for society.
