Chicago-to-Oakland Flight Aborted as Switch Fails

CHICAGO —
An American Airlines jet landed safely shortly after takeoff Thursday at O’Hare International Airport when an engine switch malfunctioned, officials said. The McDonnell Douglas Super 80 jet, Flight 1123, was bound for Oakland, Calif., with 90 passengers and a crew of five, an airline spokesman said.
