Ryan White’s Battle Against Ignorance, AIDS

Share

The heart piece of the “Quilt” is now stitched in place with the passing of Ryan White, stitched by the searing tears of love from his legion of admirers, who watched this courageous youth struggle mightily with the anguish of AIDS.

No other person, living or dead, has so galvanized the spirit of the nation in common battle against this 20th-Century plague. Perhaps, in the number of his battles, the only loss recorded by young “David” was against the “Goliath” of prejudice and ignorance.

The child is gone, but in the history of our memories is an elder statesman, eloquent beyond poetry and prose in the way he conducted his life.
