Man Arrested in Van Nuys Slaying

Aman was found bludgeoned to death inside a Van Nuys house Saturday, and police later arrested a suspect in the slaying, authorities said.

Paramedics discovered the man lying dead on the floor of the house in the 5900 block of Nagle Avenue about 1:50 p.m., Los Angeles Police Sgt. Wendi Massa said.

The victim, whose name was not released until relatives could be notified, apparently died of “multiple blunt force traumas” to the head, but the exact cause of death will not be determined until a coroner’s autopsy this week, Massa said.

Shortly after arriving at the home, officers detained Ross Harvey DeSpenza, 41, of Van Nuys while homicide detectives conducted their investigation, Massa said.

DeSpenza was later arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail at the Police Department’s Van Nuys jail, she said.

Detectives would not reveal why they think DeSpenza killed the man or what the motive was.
