Long May It Wave on County’s Land

Re: “Moving Tustin Marine Corps Helicopter Air Station” (April 7): Are the city of Irvine’s efforts to move the Tustin Marine Corps Helicopter Air Station (and maybe next the El Toro Air Station) really based on safety issues and citizens’ complaints, or does the real purpose lie in corporate and municipal greed and a desire to step up the pace of land development around the base?

Unless the Marines make a habit of flying in the middle of the night, the sight and sound of military aircraft is usually a source of both pride and excitement and a positive reminder of this country’s defense of freedom. It should also not go unnoticed that except for Camp Pendleton, Southern California’s coastline could be one, big housing tract.
