Cambodian Company May Perform: The initial step has been taken to enable the National Dance Company of Cambodia to appear at the Los Angeles Festival in September. The U.S. State Department has approved a temporary visa for Cambodian professor Proeung Chhieng to visit Los Angeles to discuss possible performances by the 32-member company with festival officials. “The anticipation is that it is going to work out,” said festival spokesman Rudy Garza, who added that the Cambodians feared that members of the dance company may defect if they are allowed to come here. The United States does not recognize Cambodia or Hun Sen, prime minister of the pro-Vietnamese government, and recently denied a visa for the Cambodian culture minister, Chheng Phon, who had been invited by festival officials.
