Playboy Sued Over Betty Boop Cartoon: The creator and copyright owner of Betty Boop filed a copyright infringement suit against Playboy Enterprises, which used a fully clothed drawing of the cartoon character to illustrate an article called “Return of the Designing Woman.” The suit, brought in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, said the use of Betty Boop falsely gave the impression that Fleischer Studios Inc. of New York authorized or endorsed Playboy magazine. The suit seeks unspecified damages of at least $100,000. (Filed April 9, 1990. Case No. 90-1767)
