Martin Marietta Corp. said it has received a $20.2-million contract to manufacture 63 advanced mortar systems and 83,000 rounds of ammunition for the U.S. Army’s armament, munitions and chemical command in Rock Island, Ill.
The 120-millimeter mortar system, which has a range of up to about four miles, is designed to replace the Army’s 107-millimeter mortar system, which has been in service for more than 40 years.
Two years ago, Martin Marietta received a $4.4-million contract from the Army to provide mortars and ammunition for follow-on operational test and evaluation. The company delivered 28 mortar systems.
