Pico Rivera : Parents Want a Voice in Replacing Superintendent
Some 25 parents have questioned the El Rancho Unified School District board’s selection process to replace retiring Supt. Thomas Sakalis.
“We’ve put them on notice that we want input on this process,” said parent Larry Cazares. He criticized the board for “going back to the usual game of taking the attitude that since we elected them we were abdicating responsibility on an ongoing basis.”
Board President Pete Ramirez said the board and hiring consultant Richard Montgomery tried to allay concerns during the April 11 meeting. “The basic question was: ‘Why are you getting the consultant?’ The answer was: ‘Because we want to get the best person we can.’ ”
Ramirez said the elected, seven-member board will have the final say, but that he encouraged parental input.
