LOS PADRES : Campsite to Close for Pipe Installation

Blue Point Campground in Los Padres National Forest will be closed from April 23 through April 30 while work crews install running water.

After the $10,000 federally funded construction project is completed May 1, visitors to the popular campground north of Lake Piru will be charged a new fee of $6 per campsite, Ranger Ron Bassett said. Visitors with more than one car will be charged an additional $3 per vehicle.

According to Los Padres National Forest policy, campground fees cannot be charged unless the campsites are supplied potable water.

Charging fees may help “reduce the rowdy element” of campers, Bassett said.

A popular trail head into the Sespe Creek area, the Blue Point Campground is located along both sides of Piru Creek about eight miles north of Piru.

The source of the water for the project will be the Sespe Creek, Bassett said. Forest contractors will install pipes about six feet under the creek to tap the underground streams, he said. The water will be fed through filters and a chlorination system before being connected to the campsite faucets.
