OXNARD : District Considers Head Start Program
The Rio School District in Oxnard is considering establishing a Head Start program for children of migrant farm workers.
Trustees listened to a presentation on the federally funded program Wednesday and will vote on the issue May 2.
If the program is approved, children ages 3 to 5 whose parents are low-income migrant fishermen or farm workers would be eligible for the free classes.
However, the decision on whether the district gets the program lies with Target Area Programs for Child Development, a private, nonprofit group funded by Head Start.
