SANTA PAULA : District Cancels Summer School

Share

Briggs School District has canceled its summer school program and will enroll its 15 summer-school students in a program at another district.

The school board canceled the program Wednesday after Supt. Carol Vines reported that the program had a $2,407 deficit in 1989. She said the district would lose about $3,601 this year unless it canceled it.

Vines said $3,601 is a lot for the elementary school district, which has 320 students at two schools and an annual budget of about $1.2 million.

“It’s difficult for small districts to run summer schools. You don’t get enough of grants to make it pay for itself,” she said.

Isbell School in the Santa Paula School District has agreed to accept Briggs’ summer school students, she said.
