World IN BRIEF : INDIA : Shots at Border Said to Kill Pakistani

Indian and Pakistani soldiers exchanged gunfire along the border in the divided northern state of Kashmir, killing at least one Pakistani soldier, Indian army officials said. Farther north, Indian forces shot and killed six civilians who were illegally crossing the frontier, a government spokesman said. India alleges that Pakistan is aiding Muslim militants who demand the secession of Kashmir from India. Pakistan denies the charges.
