“Yes, I/We would like to become an Angel for $50,000 (two tables, ad in special section of ad book, name listed in all printed materials, special recognition at dinner, most preferred seating, VIP pre-reception).”

That’s the enticement on the pink/purple “Every Child a Wanted Child” invite for the 25th anniversary Planned Parenthood, Los Angeles gala Wednesday at the Beverly Hilton. Yes, there are also $250 tickets for the affair honoring Betty Ford and Katharine Hepburn.

CHARTER: Georgianna Erskine hosted the charter meeting of the newly formed Aquatics Associates in her Pasadena home. The group discussed plans for the June 24 gala opening to launch the new Amateur Athletic Foundation (AAF) Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.

DESERT DOINGS: Ol’ Blue Eyes’ painting brought $17,000 at auction in a bid from Toys ‘R Us executive Bob Rossi at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center art auction at Rancho Mirage’s Ritz-Carlton. The event raised $140,000 for sexually abused children at the center Barbara Sinatra founded.

Weekend guests at the Sinatra compound included Veronique and Gregory Peck, Luisa and Roger Moore, Barbara and Don Rickles, and Jolene and George Schlatter. Also at the auction, Marvin and Barbara Davis and Betty Ford and son Steve.

THINK: “I want to make you think,” admonished H. Ross Perot, lauded with the exemplary leadership in management award and keynoting the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA dinner. The evening at the Century Plaza was planned by John E. Anderson, Joseph F. Alibrandi and Richard J. Stegemeier.

Before he picked up his elegant Waterford Wedgwood crystal vase (which Anderson Graduate School of Management Dean Clayburn La Force Jr. and his wife, Barbara, housed six weeks in a box at their home), Perot, who never attended business school, told nearly 1,000 to abide by the Golden Rule, “put down roots, and build great companies . . . create jobs. And I hope none of you can sleep at night until your companies are best . . . until the Japanese are standing in line to buy (your products).”

He chastised junk bonds, dipping into pension funds, “borrowing ourselves into decline,” deficit spending, drugs. Earlier, he said, “Someone on the streets of India whose intellect is better than yours will never have the chance to go to business school--that’s the way the ball bounces. I hope you will take time to be grateful to those who pay your tuition.”
