Nation IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Leaders Gather for Abernathy Services

Civil rights and political leaders gathered in Atlanta for a memorial service honoring the Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, who wanted his funeral to resemble the rites for his close friend and colleague, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Rev. Jesse Jackson, another former King aide, was to speak at the memorial service at the West Hunter Street Baptist Church, where Abernathy was pastor for 29 years. Abernathy died last week.
