Stations Smoke Out Anti-Smoking Ads: Three television stations--KABC in Los Angeles, KGO in San Francisco and KFSN in Fresno--won’t run one of the state’s new anti-smoking commercials, saying the spot “trashes” the tobacco industry. The disputed commercial shows tobacco executives fretting about replacing the thousands of smokers who quit or die or each day. Officials for Capital Cities/ABC, the parent company of the TV stations, said the commercials implies that the tobacco industry wants to kill people by encouraging them to smoke.
