Durable Goods Orders Rise: The Commerce Department said orders for durable goods--items expected to last more than three years--jumped 6.7% to a seasonally adjusted $128.8 billion. It was the largest increase since a 7.4% gain in December, 1988. However, analysts noted that most of the growth was confined to the aircraft industry. Excluding the transportation segment, orders rose 2%.
