Carlsbad Acts on Hiring Hall
The City Council on Tuesday night took the first step toward providing a hiring hall for migrant workers.
The council voted, 5-0, to explore using county land near Palomar Airport Road and El Camino Real for the hall. The vote also launched a political effort to involve all cities in North County to seek a regional solution to the migrant problem.
Further, the council called for a Thursday special session to consider supporting a community group’s bid for $700,000 in state and federal grants to build temporary shelter in Carlsbad.
