CAMARILLO : Youth Appointed to Attend Annapolis

Thomas A. Sheppard, 18, of Camarillo has been appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Sheppard, a senior at Adolfo Camarillo High School, is a member of the wrestling team and several school clubs. He is the son of Bruce and Carol Sheppard of Camarillo. Bruce Sheppard is a career Naval aviator, now stationed at the Pacific Missile Test Center at Point Mugu.

Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), who appointed Sheppard, said he is an outstanding student who wants to carry on his family’s tradition of serving his country.

“Thomas knows firsthand the challenges and rewards of military service,” Gallegly said in a prepared statement.

“The fact that he had carefully chosen his high school studies and extracurricular activities to enhance his chances of acceptance at the Naval Academy clearly shows he has the desire and the commitment it takes to be an outstanding midshipman and then a superior officer,” Gallegly said.
