Countywide : Fire Officials Warn of Solicitors’ Scam
The County Fire Department is cautioning the public against phone solicitors misrepresenting themselves as firefighters asking for donations.
“The Fire Department is receiving between 15 and 20 calls a day with complaints or queries about the solicitations,” spokeswoman Kathleen Cha said.
She said solicitors have been “abusive, rude and suspicious in nature.”
The Orange County Burn Assn. currently is the only legitimate charity using solicitors to advertise the department’s benefit magic show scheduled May 30 in the Anaheim Convention Center, she said.
The County Fire Department itself does not solicit by phone, Cha said.
