Farmland vs. College

Share

I’m writing in response to the April 18 article about Jesse Lux and his farm and MiraCosta College. I realize the projected growth for the county, the need for classrooms, parking, etc. at MiraCosta into the next century. However, to take away a man’s livelihood, much less what’s left of his heritage, by “eminent domain,” because the school has the power, infuriates me.

What’s worse are MiraCosta Vice President of Business Affairs John Mullender’s statements re: the meeting 10 years ago, which Jesse Lux attended. To say Lux “acts like we made those promises yesterday” and “he’s lucky in a way,” shows his selfishness, crookedness, self-centered, egocentric way. I believe he’d be luckier with 92 houses next door than MiraCosta and Mullender threatening to take his land, when we all know there is other property available.
