More than a million pounds of carbon monoxide from the Star Enterprise Oil Refinery has been leaking into the air for days, but company officials Saturday said there is no cause for concern.

A spokeswoman said the leak is due to a breakdown of pollution control equipment on the main petroleum cracker. The cracker takes raw crude oil and turns it into gas and other petroleum products.

Company and state environmental officials said carbon monoxide quickly rises into the atmosphere and should not pose a health risk.
