Garden Reference Tool

The third edition of “Gardening by Mail” by Barbara Barton (Houghton Mifflin, $16.95) has just been published and should be available at local bookstores.

This publication is a must for the serious gardener. It lists more than 1,000 mail order seed companies and nurseries in the United States and Canada, and from as far away as Australia. These companies are also indexed by plant specialty and location. The author’s comments are included for each listing.

In addition, more than 500 garden supply and service companies are indexed by product or service and trade name. As many as 280 plant and horticultural societies are included, along with listings for horticultural libraries, gardening books, magazines and newsletters.

The author is a reference librarian and avid gardener. She has presented gardeners with a valuable tool in an easy-to-read format.
