Economist Robert R. Davis, a member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission since 1984, said today that he will leave the federal futures regulating body for an executive position with the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Davis, who was nominated to the five-member CFTC by President Reagan, said he will join the New York exchange as senior vice president for planning and development.

Davis’ resignation is expected to take effect immediately, the CFTC said.

Davis served as senior economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress before his appointment to the CFTC.
