PLATFORM : Grow We Must

The Gilmore Co. is only asking to develop the property at its current zoning limit. If zoning means anything in this city, does it mean you at least have some right to do something with your property? The Gilmore family is not asking to do anything more than is legally permitted by the zoning.

(We must consider) how it is going to relate to the community. Issues like transportation, design, neighborhood protection, traffic. We have to look at these as we move forward with the project.

But we have to have economic growth in this city. We have a population in Southern California that is going to grow by 2010 by an additional 5 million people. Seventy percent of it will be just people being born here. . . . We have to provide services, we have to provide a tax base, we have to provide housing and jobs. So, yes, the city has to continue to grow just to meet the population that is expected.

Developers are part of the economic engine of the city, in providing jobs and providing a tax base. We cannot afford as a city to commit economic suicide.
