Intel Sees Japan Computer Dominance by 1992: The head of Intel Corp., whose popular 386 microprocessor is used in computer systems worldwide, said he expects Japan to overtake the U.S. as the dominant world supplier of computers by 1992. Intel Chief Executive Andrew Grove said that although Japanese dominance in the semiconductor industry is a threat, Japan’s rising market share in the computer industry is even more alarming. By 1992, Grove said, he sees the U.S. worldwide computer market share falling to 38%, compared to 42% for Japan.
