NATION : 1 in 4 NYC Men Age 25-44 Have AIDS Infection, Tops in World
New York City has the highest AIDS rate in the world, with nearly one of every four men between the ages 25 and 44 infected with the deadly disease, a published report said today.
The results, compiled in a study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control study, are scheduled to be published Thursday in the Medical Tribune, the New York Post reported.
The rate of acquired immune deficiency syndrome in the New York City-New Jersey region “is not only the highest in the country, it is also higher than reported in Africa,” the newspaper quoted the publication saying.
The two-year study was based on anonymous blood samples drawn from patients with non-AIDS-related conditions at 26 hospitals across the nation, including three in New York City, the Post said.
