The Valley Master Chorale and Orchestra will perform Verdi’s “Requiem” at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 300 E. Green St., at 8 p.m. Saturday. Ticket prices range from $12 to $18.
The Valley Master Chorale, based at Cal State Northridge, has performed with the Glendale Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute Orchestra and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. The artistic director, John Alexander, is professor of music and chairman of choral activities at Cal State Northridge.
The Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi originally conceived “Requiem” in 1869 to commemorate the death of the composer Gioacchino Rossini, but later completed the work as a commemoration to writer Alessandro Manzoni. The first performance took place in 1874 in the church of San Marco in Milan.
