Santa Monica : Arts Groups to Be Merged
The City Council has voted to merge the city’s Arts Commission and Arts Foundation. The two groups will still exist, but a common group of commissioners and foundation directors will vote on the matters of both bodies.
The vote Tuesday night was 6 to 0.
Councilman David Finkel said the merger will make city arts projects more efficient because the foundation’s fund-raising efforts will be coordinated with the commission’s legislation. “We just want everyone to collaborate,” Finkel said after the council meeting.
The council first suggested the merger in April, after Arts Foundation directors complained that they raised money for city arts projects but did not have any voice when it came time to spend it.
