Cook to Resign as CEO of Tribune Co.

Stanton R. Cook will step down later this year as chief executive of the Tribune Co., which publishes the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News and other newspapers.

Cook, who will be 65 in July, said he will remain as Tribune Co. chairman when the change takes place Aug. 1.

He will be replaced as chief executive by Charles T. Brumback, currently president and chief operating officer of Tribune Co.

Cook said he will also relinquish his post as publisher of the Chicago Tribune. That position will go to John W. Madigan, president of the Chicago Tribune Co., a subsidiary of Tribune Co.

Cook joined Tribune Co. in 1951. He has been CEO since 1974.
