World Red Cross Day Will Be Observed Tuesday

Share

Southern California chapters of the American Red Cross will join Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world in observing Tuesday as World Red Cross Day.

“Protecting Human Life and Dignity” has been selected as the theme of the observance to reflect the role of Red Cross and Red Crescent agencies in delivering humanitarian services and in protecting the lives of human beings worldwide.

May 8 is observed as World Red Cross Day each year in honor of Henry Dunant, a Swiss citizen and founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement 126 years ago. The movement embraces seven principles: neutrality, humanity, impartiality, independence, universality, unity and volunteerism. Approximately 250 million people are members.
