How to Get to Jamestown

How to Get There: Jamestown, Yorktown and the more popular Colonial Williamsburg, which lies between them, are on the Virginia Peninsula between Norfolk and Richmond. They comprise what is known as Virginia’s Historic Triangle.

All are linked by the 23-mile Colonial Parkway, completed in 1957. No commercial vehicles are allowed on the two-lane road, which goes through a tunnel beneath Williamsburg. Jamestown, Yorktown and the parkway are federal properties known as Colonial National Historical Park.

Jamestown Island is jointly administered by the National Park Service and the Assn. for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, which owns 22 1/2 acres.

Admission: The island is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. in winter). Admission is $5 per car. For more about Jamestown Island, write to: Superintendent, Colonial National Historical Park, Yorktown, Va. 23690.

Jamestown Settlement is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (5 p.m. in winter). Admission is $6.50, $3 for children 6 to 12. Visitors to both Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center, another state museum, can buy reduced-price tickets.
