Michael Jackson Honored: Michael Jackson will be awarded today with the performing rights organization Broadcast Music Inc.’s first “Michael Jackson Award.” “The award recognizes an individual who has had an important impact on contemporary culture and who has in a measurable way made an uplifting contribution to society,” said BMI President Frances Preston. Jackson will be presented with his namesake award during a luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Jackson, who records for Epic Records, was BMI’s songwriter of the year in 1983.
