Ted Mann’s Gift: Theater owner Ted Mann of Los Angeles has pledged $2 million toward construction of a concert hall for the University of Minnesota School of Music. Mann’s gift is contingent upon Minnesota Gov. Rudy Perpich signing a legislative bonding bill next week that will provide $6.7 million for the $11.1-million hall. The remainder of the money will come from private sources. Mann grew up in North Dakota and eventually moved to Minneapolis, where he built a chain of movie theaters. Groundbreaking for the building is planned for this winter.
