Pan American World Airways Inc. has signed a five-year, $40-million agreement for American Telephone & Telegraph Co. to provide computer equipment for the airline.

AT&T; computers of the 6386/SX and 6386/25 lines will be installed to upgrade Pan Am’s computerized operations at airports, administrative offices and reservation centers worldwide, the carrier said.

“Installation of the AT&T; systems at about 100 locations will form the foundation for what we call the airport of the future,” said Robert Wagner, Pan Am’s vice president of information services.
