The Chevrolet engine of Eddie Cheever blew during practice for the Indianapolis 500, but he remained the fastest rookie thus far.
The engine blew as Cheever was on the front straightaway after turning a lap at more than 212 m.p.h. His best lap, on Sunday, was 215.631.
