Andy Bishop of Tucson, Ariz., used revenge as motivation to ride to a 70-mile solo victory Tuesday, and Soviet amateur Viatcheslav Bobrik maintained his overall lead in the Tour de Trump.

Bishop, 24, left a pack of 14 lead riders after about 70 miles and rode alone for more than three hours in winning the 141.7-mile Winchester-to-Harrisburg seventh stage in 5 hours 2 minutes 27 seconds.

“I wanted to show them they made a mistake,” said Bishop, whose contract for the Dutch PDM international pro team was not renewed after last season.

Bishop, who now races for the Spago team of Los Angeles, was next-to-last among 86 finishers in last year’s Tour de Trump while riding for PDM.

Philippe Casado of Morocco, who thought he had won the race, finished second, 3:39 behind Bishop. Casado raised one arm as he crossed the finish line, apparently unaware of Bishop’s victory.
