Uncommon Scents

Flowers are always a good thing to give mom on Mother’s Day, but please, show some imagination this year. Why not give her the bottled fragrance of her favorite flower? Antonia’s Flowers, a fragrance collection from East Hampton, N.Y., is one of the unusual options. It is carried at Ashbrook’s for the Garden in Santa Monica. The freesia scent, quite popular in the East, is priced at $33 for 1.7 ounces of eau de toilette. The Brass Tree shop in Beverly Hills also carries it.

Lavender & Lace, a linens, lace and antique shop in Los Angeles, has several varieties of floral fragrances--Taylor of London’s sprays in gardenia, English rose, lily and freesia--available for $15 in 1-ounce bottles. Jasmine, magnolia and lavender eau de toilettes, imported from France, are available in 2-ounce bottles. A peach eau de toilette spray, from Browns of Melbourne, Australia, is another uncommon choice.

Even on trendy Melrose Avenue, you can find floral scents for your mom. Lily of the valley and violet sprays from Bosari are $29 for 1.6 ounces, while camellia, lily and lavender fragrances, in frosted apothecary jars from Senteurs Douces of France, are $12 at Fred Segal Melrose.
