Al Martinez writes of his quest for the perfect dry martinez (nee martini), and in practically the same breath, casually reveals he uses vodka, not the traditional gin (Metro, May 8). Egads! Is nothing sacred? If it’s not made with gin, it should not aspire to the martini title. Call it a “vodkini”--anything--but not a martini. Enough of this revisionist reporting by Martinez. We have to take a stand for traditional values. I believe I’ll have another martini. Make it a double. Straight up.
