Brazil Frees Stock Speculator: A Brazilian judge freed speculator Naji Nahas, who was placed under house arrest after sparking a crisis in Brazil’s stock exchanges last year. An inquiry into his stock dealings is continuing. Nahas rocked the nation’s exchanges last year when he bounced checks worth the equivalent of $29 million. Brokerage houses lost up to $500 million and authorities were forced to close the stock and options markets.
