Is Michigan ho-hum about native daughter Madonna?

As of the weekend, 2,000 of the 44,000 tickets for her May 30 and 31 shows in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills had not been sold even though the $29.50 tickets have been on sale since March 31. While things were slow in Auburn Hills, which is near Madonna’s hometown of Rochester, Mich., people in Chicago snapped up about 54,000 tickets for her concert dates there in a matter of hours. Promoters blamed the slower Detroit sales to a media mix-up that erroneously advertised additional Madonna concerts. “There were so many people saying there would be four shows that people were waiting for further announcements before they bought tickets,” a spokeswoman said.

But Sherri Anderson of Continental Limousines, whose company sold out its limo-ticket package for the show quickly but is having a tougher time with its ticket-bus deal, says Madonna is over-hyped. “I think she’s very over-killed,” Anderson said. “She’s just another girl from Michigan.”
