RIO DE JANEIRO : Cocaine Conference in Brazil

Share

Police and other officials from Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Brazil will meet in Foz de Iguazu in southern Brazil on Friday to exchange information on cocaine trafficking and law enforcement efforts against it.

Brazil is a major source of chemicals used to refine cocaine in other countries. Agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration have said international drug traffickers are setting up more cocaine laboratories in Brazil, and the DEA is hoping for greater enforcement efforts by the Brazilians.

With Bolivia, Peru and Colombia cracking down on the drug lords, DEA agents fear that more of the groups will move into Brazil. “We can’t let them have safe haven there,” one agent said.
