WORLD : Deadline for Shamir Extended

JERUSALEM —
President Chaim Herzog today granted Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir a 21-day extension on his mandate to form a new government.
Shamir had asked for extra time because of disputes with potential partners over the distribution of Cabinet posts, Avi Pazner, a spokesman for Shamir, said. The previous mandate expires Friday.
