STAGE
‘King’ to Close: A $5-million London stage musical about Martin Luther King Jr. will close on June 2, only six weeks after its premiere. Producers blamed the closure on damaging reviews and negative publicity about “King” before it opened. “King” was receiving nightly ovations but had taken in only $170,000 in advance bookings. King’s widow, Coretta Scott King, only endorsed “King” in March after earlier complaining that the music trivialized her husband’s memory and threatening legal action to try to stop it.
